St Mark's CE Primary School

Design Technology

Subject Leader: Mrs White & Mrs Sandiford

At St. Marks we use a scheme for our Design and Technology lessons, produced by Kapow Primary, which supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum attainment targets.

The scheme aims to inspire pupils to be innovative and creative thinkers, who are confident to take risks. Pupils will learn to draft design concepts, and to model, test and evaluate their work.

Pupils will build awareness of the impact of DT on our lives and be encouraged to become resourceful and enterprising and to develop the skills to be able to contribute to future design advancements.

Pupils will engage in the 3 main stages of the design process; Design Make Evaluate, and they will develop technical knowledge and vocabulary.

Units are organised into 6 key areas;

*Mechanisms/ Mechanical Systems

*Structures

*Textiles

*Electrical Systems (KS2)

*Digital World (KS2)

*Cooking and Nutrition

Lessons follow a spiral curriculum model. The lessons in each unit are sequential and build upon previous skills and knowledge.

SEND

Teachers are well skilled at adapting teaching to meet the diverse range of needs in each class. Daily planning considers individual pupil’s needs and requirements, and adaptive teaching is used where appropriate.

A range of adaptations are considered to promote equality of access and ensure that all pupils can experience success and challenge in their learning. Grouping arrangements are organised flexibly with opportunities for both ability and mixed setting to maximise learning opportunities for all.
