Art and Design

Leader: Mrs Sandiford & Mrs White

Our Curriculum

The Art curriculum that we follow within St. Mark’s aims to develop children’s skills across 5 main areas of Art; drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles and 3D art. The children are taught about at least one famous artist within each year group. This aims to enhance the child’s understanding of techniques that artists have developed, along with the opportunity to apply these techniques within their own Art lessons.

The DT curriculum that we follow within St. Mark’s aims to develop the children’s skills across 4 main areas of Design and technology; Developing, planning and communicating ideas, Working with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products, Evaluating processes and products, Food and Nutrition. The topics that we deliver within our Art and DT lessons are closely linked to other learning themes within the curriculum. This provides a cross curricular approach to our Art/DT lessons. This in turn enriches the children’s learning, providing a chance for a deeper understanding to take place within the classroom.
